MJF aims to reduce the number of cases of abuse and ensure a safe environment for children in Tanzania via various awareness programs. The aim is to achieve a long-term impact, by improving the training of local professionals, and providing support and education for children in their communities.

The program is structured in each regional and district across Tanzania depending on the needs of the following pillars: –

  1. Prevention of Sexual Abuse

These sessions allow children to acquire skills and reflexes that protect against sexual abuse. The sessions are held in schools, recreation centres, and the children’s neighborhoods. They also take place in partner institutions.

  1. Legal Aid

To encourage the abused children to raise their voices so they can get psychological and physical help and report the cases and acts to the authority.

  1. Training Programs and Acquisition of Fundamental Skills on Child Abuse

MJF offers its partner organizations training programs to improve the fight against sexual abuse. They include, for example, ways to develop a child protection policy, the exchange of good practices and experiences in dealing with issues of sexual abuse, and the development of resilience in children and parents.

  1. Child Protection Education

Events (workshops, class sessions, campaigns, meetings) help educate the child’s family and the general public on the seriousness and consequences of sexual abuse. They aim to encourage in-depth behavioral changes regarding violence against children. Local seminars, training courses, and the next Mtoto Jitambue Foundation are also opportunities for awareness-raising.

  • Educational Aid – we provide limited financial support for education.
  • Referrals for Vocational Training for youth

And our group activities include:

  • Support Groups – these are based on abused children and youth groups. Support groups may discuss issues ranging from domestic violence, child sexual abuse, health and hygiene, and anger management to group bonding.
  • Workshops – on parent/child relationships, problems faced during adolescence, gender, sexuality, and other issues. Inter-generational workshops and outstation workshops are also led by Mtoto Jitambue Foundation.
  • Summer Camps – these provide a fun space to explore more ideas and topics, for example, addressing age-specific stressors and discussing self-sufficiency.
  1. Support for Children

Mtoto Jitambue Foundation and its partners can provide direct support to child victims of sexual abuse. Children and you can be supported to overcome trauma and stay focused; where they are cared for and given psychological support to help overcome their trauma. In certain cases, children can receive legal assistance, and for older children, vocational training where needed.

  1. Advocacy Against Sexual Abuse

The aim of Mtoto Jitambue Foundation and its partners’ advocacy is to wield an influence on local, and national authorities and institutions, and to bring about changes in legislation and public child protection policies.

  1. Counselling Programs

One to One Counselling and group therapy – are available for all abused and non-abused children and youth; providing space for the child to understand certain behaviours and responses and deal with the abuse and violence.

  1. Research and Publications

Fieldwork is subject to good practice guidelines, which are abridged in publications on prevention and support for child victims of sexual abuse. A handbook on the implementation and evaluation of resilience will also be developed.
